Metabolaid® Background and Benefits 

Metabolaid® is a patented botanical ingredient developed by the Spanish company Monteloeder. It combines standardized extracts of lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora, also known as Lippia citriodora) and hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa). Research began in 2011, the formula was finalized in 2014 and clinical studies started in 2015. Today it is supported by eight clinical trials and over ten scientific publications. 

Both plants have a long history of traditional use. Lemon verbena, native to South America, has been enjoyed as a calming herbal tea, while hibiscus calyces are brewed into tart, refreshing drinks across Africa, Asia and Latin America. 

Metabolaid's activity is linked to its polyphenols, mainly verbascoside from lemon verbena and anthocyanins and flavonoids from hibiscus. Research suggests these compounds may support the body's natural GLP-1 response. GLP-1 is a gut hormone involved in feeling full, and the extract was also associated with lower levels of ghrelin, a hormone linked to hunger. Metabolaid also appears to support healthy AMPK activity. AMPK acts as a cellular energy sensor that helps regulate how the body uses fat and glucose. 

In clinical studies, taking Metabolaid® daily for two to three months was associated with lower body weight, BMI and central fat mass. Participants also showed better systolic and diastolic blood pressure and healthier blood lipid profiles. Further research suggests gut bacteria break down its phenolic compounds efficiently. This may increase production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate. 

Uses of Metabolaid® 

Metabolaid® is mainly used in dietary supplements that support weight management, a healthy appetite and metabolic balance. It has been clinically studied at a modest daily dose (the manufacturer recommends 500 mg). That makes it well suited to capsules and tablets as well as shakes and functional drinks.
